New emergency service contact for the deaf
Ofcom announced their decision to launch a new emergency video relay service in the UK last year, to enable deaf British Sign Language (BSL) users to contact the emergency services in their first language.
The obligation comes into force on the 17th June 2022 for providers of Internet Services or Communication Services to provide a solution and ensure that End Users can access an Emergency Video Relay Service free of charge.
The new Emergency Video Relay App and Website has been designed in a way that calls pass over the data connection so no pence per minute fixed call charges or mobile pence per minute call charges will be used for the service.
